A much-needed employee housing project in Whistler continues to move quickly through the bureaucracy. At a March 5 council meeting, the RMOW council issued a development permit for 1475 Mount Fee Road, a 104-unit housing project.
The project received rezoning in early January, the terms of its housing agreement at the end of January, and now the council has granted a development permit. A Building Permit is also expected soon, with trees already being cleared from the site.

The Cheakamus Crossing Phase 2 project, Lot 5, is a 10,194 square metre land parcel located at 1475 Mount Fee Road on the western side of the road. “I think this is great work… You’re building buildings, having just built buildings,” gushed Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton at the March 4 meeting.
The project consists of two four-storey, employee-restricted apartment buildings with 104 units, including 24 studios, 40 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units, and eight three-bedroom units. All units will be available through the WHA rental waitlist.
The two apartment buildings will be constructed by Whistler Development Corporation (WDC) and are intended to be purchased and managed by the Whistler Housing Authority as affordable, employee-restricted rental housing.
The occupancy goal is 2026.
